A Daily Meditation in Memorial to My Dad

It is great wisdom not to be rash in our actions;

  • Nor to be hard-hearted in our own opinion:

  • Nor should we believe every man's word;

  • Nor in-the-moment tell others the things which we have heard or believed.

My father, Jim, passed away four years ago this week. He was such a man as Thomas a'Kempis describes here (From Book 1, chapter 4, The Imitation of Christ).

As a family, we were fortunate that he modeled these qualities which Thomas writes about, delineating the qualities of the virtue of Prudence.

Dad was not a rash man.  He had a big, soft heart, and waited for things to play out before commenting on the actions or judgments of others. He didn't gossip, and took you at your word (unless there was evidence to suspect otherwise).

Today, may you find your own model out in the world: seek them out and follow the template.

Looking forward to seeing you in Heaven, Dad!

Until next time, thanks for praying with me.
Be imitators of Christ!
Tim
